what is a drug addict exactly?-00-4873

what exactly is a drug addict?

I know a person that only takes prescription drugs. She takes them often for pain, and they aren't usually her prescription, she buys other peoples prescriptions from them. Does that make her a drug addict?

A person eats mushrooms that makes them hallucinate, mushrooms are all natural, are they a drug?

So what are drugs? A drug is classified as any type of drug, alcohol or anything that alters the body. That to me means any prescription drug, street drug, alcohol, or anything else I can take that makes me not normal.

What about the nicotine from cigarettes, does it alter our body at all, well I know when I don't have a cigarette I am moody and irritable so I would say the cigarettes keep me calm, does that mean I’m a drug addict because I like nicotine.

Now we all know that coffee (not decaf) has caffeine in it, many people including myself, need coffee just to motivate, does that make us drug addicts?

I also have confusion, is alcohol considered a drug? Alcohol alters my body functions when I drink, so I would have to say it’s a drug but if it is a drug then why is the alcoholic labeled an alcoholic and not a drug addict? Very confusing!

So where is the line drawn? Is a drug addict just a person that takes illegal drugs or are we all considered addicts? Seriously we all do take some kind of body altering medication, whether it’s an aspirin for pain or Midol for those monthly aches, pain and irritability. Is there anyone at all that takes no medication? I doubt it! But that’s just my opinion.

So overall I’m still in a confused state of mind, am I a drug addict because I drink coffee all day long along with smoking a pack of cigarettes and about once a month I go out dancing and drinking. Well if that constitutes me being a drug addict, I guess that’s what I am, I feel like it’s a label but that’s a whole different subject that one day I’m sure someone will post an article about.

Have a blessed day.
