By: Jessie Stone

The thought of flowers bring us images of beautiful things. Regardless of how we feel that day, seeing a flower elicits positive feelings, at least for most of us. But because they are so commonplace, their true value is often overlooked. Flowers in Thailand are important in more ways than one. They play a great role in ecology, history, medicine, perfume and the food industries. But other than these practical uses, the value of flowers in our lives is best felt through the symbols they carry. And while it seems many of us would not have realized, what would you think weddings would be like without flowers? Such is the value that they have in our lives.

Everywhere in the world, there are flowers. But different countries, owing to the different environmental conditions, may have certain kinds of flowers growing more in one place than in other places. Thailand, which is one of the nations in the Southeast Asia, has moderate temperature with long rainy season, ideal for the cultivation of tropical flowers. Among the most popular flowers of Thailand are orchids, krachiaos and jasmine. Over the years, each flower has had its own role in occasions and certain traditions of the country. In addition, these flowers have always been used as gifts for loved ones in order for one to show love and appreciation to them. The orchids are one of the most famous flowers which have caught the attention of people or stirred their passion. They symbolize exotic beauty, refinement, thoughtfulness, mature charm and long life. They also represent many children, according to the Chinese culture. Krachiao or the Siam tulip is a pinkish-purple wildflower that blooms all together in one season each year. During this time, the province of Chaiyaphum in Thailand hosts a flower festival to give opportunity to travellers to witness the wonderful Siam tulip fields in a natural setting. It is believed that whoever stands in this field of Siam tulip would experience joy similar to what they would have while standing in heaven.

Another famous flower, jasmine, has white petals and is known for its distinctive, fragrant smell. This can be found all over Thailand and is widely used in the manufacture of perfumes and soaps. In Thailand, it represents motherhood and thus is a popular choice for gifts during Mother's Day. It also is a great relief for stress and aids in improving people's health. It's true that these flowers can mean differently or symbolize different things in other countries. Nonetheless, flowers are a natural blessing for people to take pleasure and inspiration from as they live each day. They also remain to be one of the best gifts you can give to people you hold dear in your hearts.
