Recently I had the opportunity to fly to Broome in WA from Brisbane and watch the sun set over Cable Beach with my mum and toast the occasion with a lovely glass of wine: - the occasion stirred me to wondering about who was there and why.
Broome has a population of about 15,000 but in peak tourist season an additional 30,000 tourists arrive swelling the population to 45,000 - the town copes wonderfully.
Interestingly the tourists are mostly either young foreign back backers or 'Grey Nomads' (financially independent retirees who travel); many of the Grey Nomads are return visitors, the rest of us (ordinary Australians) are as scarce as hens teeth. The question is Why? - Well Broome is remote and a little costly so to visit you require time and money - two things that most 'ordinary Australians' lack. Current statistics show that less than 5% of retiring Australians are financially independent - the other 95% just cannot afford the time or the money to create such precious memories.
Wealth Creation and Financial Independence are not about how much money you have but about the opportunities that wealth presents make to create precious memories, like drinking a glass of wine and watching the sun set over Cable Beach, Broome WA.
It was a pleasure to witness first hand large groups of people living the life that sound financial planning and wealth creation provides.
