Thoughts to Ponder: Before Weddings and Festivities

By: Norman Kirby

There is nothing which compares to the excitement of weddings especially for a bride to be. Even the song "Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)" tells a story of a girl who journeys on with life until she gets married and has children of her own. It is even ironic how girls start to plan how to hold their wedding from the ceremony to the reception even before finding a mate.
Even amidst the economic crises, women still desire to have their dream wedding or even close to it. A wedding where she can wear the most exquisite dress money can afford; of having both the couple's family and friends in an elaborate feast; of being considered the best wedding among all those attended by her friends. And why not when a woman is presumably married only once in a lifetime? The high importance placed on such celebration is even compounded by the publicized exchange of vows of celebrities and prominent people which raises the standard of how weddings ought to be celebrated.
A wedding is not, however, founded on dreams. Preparing and planning for one especially if you want to make it as elaborate as those of the stars will really cost a lot. Before you shell out your hard-earned savings in chasing the elusive wedding of your dreams, the following are the things to ponder on:
The average cost of wedding is about 20000 to 30000. Even after a successful wedding, most couples begin to regret spending as much when they realize that the amount could have bought them a quality car or can be used as down payment for the house of their dreams. Many sweet lemon and argue that despite the cost, they have the memories of that special day to get them by but still have regretful thoughts at the back of their minds.
Not many couples realize it but what will make weddings more memorable is the intimacy of having those people that really matter to you and your spouse come together to celebrate the important day. Having a sea of people whom most of you don't really know will not ensure the specialness of the occasion. What will make it extra special is having each one of your guests contribute to the success of your wedding. As you browse through the mementos, you will see how the cooperative effort has made your wedding a success.
Even spending much for the wedding will not ensure you a solid marriage. Think about it. You hear about celebrities spending about hundreds of thousands of dollars for their wedding and this catches the eye of the public. But when they get divorced, only the memory of this painful event lingers on with thoughts of the beautiful past forgotten. This goes to show that it is what happens after the wedding that really matters. After all, the exchange of vows is only the start of your quest as a married couple.
If you still want to splurge then, by all means do so; but remember to double your efforts of making your marriage work.
