Things You Need To Understand Regarding Lampang Flowers

By: Jessie Stone

Lampang is a northern state in Thailand and possesses thirteen administrative divisions. These include: Mueang Lampang Mae Mo Ko Kha Soem Ngam Ngao Chae Hom Wang Nuea Thoen Mae Phrik Mae Tha Sop Prap Hang Chat Mueang Pan

Lampang is situated near the Wang River, which is an ancient trading path from China. There are several national parks within the province and these are Tham Pha Thai, Chae Son and Doi Khun Than.

Huay Tek botanical flower gardens in Lampang feature plenty of flower species which have been grown in 10x10m square plots. These Lampang flowers are raised for sale, and frequently find their way to the flower markets of Bangkok. Flowers are raised in this place because of the cool climate of Lampang.

Lampang began life in the late 1600's and was initially inhabited by Mon tribe, which would not regard theirselves to be Thai (or Tai) simply because they came from the great Khmer empire. It was controlled by Burmese rule for a long time until eventually the province collaborated with Siam the great state which eventually became known as Thailand.

There are many things to see and do in Lampang. Admire the flower gardens at Huay Tek, take a winding river ride down the Wang, check out the fascinating and ancient structure of the Chao Pho Shrine or go to the Elephant Conservation Center.

Lampang is well known for its ceramic and terra-cotta. Local people create fine dishes and gourds and religious trinkets produced from terra-cotta. Lampang is an excellent spot to visit during Loy-Kratong when candle lit flower boats are floated in the Wang river and beautiful sky lanterns is visible flying into the sky. Lampang can conveniently be reached by means of long distance bus service from Bangkok. Alternatively, fly to Chiang Mai and take a coach service from there.

Meanwhile, another location of interest in relation to flowers is Lampun, which is near Chiang Mai and Lampang in Northern Thailand. Lampun is on the Ping river which is an ancient trading path for the flowers into Chiang Mai and further south into the country. Lampun is a picturesque place with huge flower laden sprawling valleys which are technically the foothills to the Himalayas given that they have exactly the same tectonic plate. Lampun is only 15 miles from Chiang Mai.

In the late 1100's this part of the Mon empire went under to the Lannas until it had been ruled by the Burmese for two centuries. Thailand was then finally formed by a collaboration of numerous provincial leaders and the Burmese were finally removed from Thailand altogether.
