The Very Best Single Malt Thanks to the Land of Rising Sun

By: Norman Kirby

When contemplating countries manufacturing luxury single malt whiskies an area comes often in your thoughts, Scotland, it's here where malt whisky with character from its environment is distilled. it is unusual for a single luxury malt whisky, to be produced anywhere else. For instance, Irish whisky is typically combined; bourbons from America and sour mash will also be blended. Single malts are specific because they come from only one source that has been distilled, providing a complex flavour. There exists a great deal of skill associated with creating among the world's very best luxury single malts. Indeed, just a couple of distilleries on the planet generate single malt whiskies.

It all started out with Suntory's pursuit of crafting world-class whisky..

Japan is home to a few of the very best things in everyday life, two of those are "Sushi" and "Kobe Beef"; it's now, also home to one of the finest single malt whiskies, "Yamazaki". "Yamazaki", is a proof of a few of the finest practises found in producing single malt whisky. The purity and excellence of the ingredients, the meticulous processing of the malted barleys, the mixing of yeasts in the fermentation and the ageing process allow it to be plain that Yamazaki is produced using the demanding approach typical of the Japanese culture.

It ages in oak casks of three different attributes: North American white oak (adding vanilla and coconut aromas), Spanish oak (contributing fruity and chocolate aromas) and Japanese mizunara oak from Hokkaido (incense and citrus scents). The effect is a full-bodied luxury aroma with exceptional character and fascinating flavour, where each drink has a specific taste. The Yamazaki is a smooth, rich whisky with spicey and flowery aromas, remnants of cherries, honey, and in the 18 year old, delicate tones of wood. The taste is subtle and mellow, sweet having a prolonged pleasurable dry finish. The finish of either age is extremely good, suitable for the custom of "mizuwari", blending with water or ice, to ensure the luxury whisky is palatable with food.

Yamazaki has garnered quite a few significant awards, accolades, praises and hordes of fans around the world. We strongly believe that the Suntory distillery produces with Yamazaki among the world's very best luxury whiskies that could be "equal to some, but second-to-none".
