By: Steven Gearing

Do you get regular bouts of bad acne? Are you worried about scars or damaged skin from particularly bad pimple out breaks? Well you shouldn’t over worry, there are plenty of acne cures readily available from your local chemist, doctors office and even home made remedies that you can create in your kitchen and start using now. But why do I have zits? There are 2 main causes of pimple out breaks, a hormonal imbalance which usually occurs during puberty when we get large boosts of hormones racing through our bodies; this is why so many of us have acne when we are younger. The other major cause is through external factors such as dirt, eating greasy food and over sweating; if you thought that just because you’re an adult you’re somehow protected from contracting acne, you’re wrong.

So how do I get rid of acne once I have it? Luckily doctors have been dealing with bad cases of pimples for a while now and there is an endless line of different acne cures at your finger tips. A visit to your local shopping center or chemist will bring you face to face with a number of affordable over the counter solutions; these mainly come as creams and wipes which can be directly applied to the affected areas. Before spending you hard earned cash on medications that may or may not help your problem it is best to first get to the root of what’s causing your acne, this way you can pick exactly the right form of treatment and get rid of those unsightly white spots quicker.

What causes acne? Increased hormones in the body, aide affect of a new prescription medication, eating an unbalanced diet, a skin reaction to household cleaning products, too much stress, over applying make up and over cleaning your skins surface.

Possible acne treatments:

When choosing the right acne cure for your skin condition you’ll need to know exactly which one of the above causes is responsible, if you get this wrong the product that you buy will do very little. For example your acne may the result of using a newly bought soap; people with sensitive skin can react badly to chemicals in certain cleaning products. If this is the case using store bought acne remedies may help reduce swelling, but the pimples won’t go away until you get rid of the soap that’s causing the issue. To give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of acne cures, here are 3 of the more popular remedies:

(1) Benzyl Peroxide – You will definitely have used this in the past, Benzyl Peroxide can be found as a topical cream in most chemists and supermarkets, it is commonly mixed with other ingredients, such as vitamin A, E or K, to help with the swelling. Once applied directly to the affected areas it dries out the skin absorbing all the oil and moisture, this helps to protect from further pimple outbreaks. Remember to use it sparingly, as over application can cause dry itchy patches that may turn red and swell up.

(2) Salicylic Acid – This is also an ingredient commonly found in most over the counter topical cream mixtures, if you’ve had a bad case of acne in the past then you will almost definitely have used a product with this chemical in it. It has been known to be combined with Benzyl Peroxide for a double action affect, but it works just as effectively on its own. This particular acne cure works by seeping deep into your pores and loosening the oily contents, once out of the skin your pimples will begin to shrink in size. IF you decide to use this cream it’s best to apply it just once a day, as it does promote shedding of dead skin and can cause uncomfortable swelling on sensitive skin types.

(3) Home made remedies – A lot of people prefer not to put potentially toxic chemicals on their face, so an alternative was devised; there are several all natural ingredients in your kitchen that can help reduce the symptoms of acne. One of these is the carrot and honey treatment; to make it simply grate one full carrot into a bowl and add 2-3 tablespoons of honey, mix and apply directly to your affected skin. This should be done once a day for about 3 weeks for the best results, it helps because the honey contains a naturally occurring anti bacterial chemical and the carrots contain a chemical that gets rid of sebum oil in your pores. Another effective home acne cure makes use of organic oats, add warm water to the dry oatmeal mix and apply the resulting paste to your pimples; as the oats dry they absorb the oil and moisture from the surface of the skin reducing the size of your spots.
