The Story of the Ink jet Cartridge

By: Mo Bradley

The world of printing has come a long way since Dot Matrix printers were in use for printing. They used knowledge requiring the changing of the ribbon pretty often. The industry started to explore new ways of ink delivery and the end result was a new technique named the “drop on demand” method which factually exploded onto the scene. Since then the industry set up new ways to make printing even less complicated and more convenient.

There were all out efforts by many companies led by Canon to advance a new ink delivery system using wet ink. The aim was to assemble a removable printer cartridge capable of delivering ink to the paper. HP succeeded in developing this technology that resulted in the announcement of the HP Deskjet, HP Photosmart, HP PSC and HP Officejet and lots of others.
Ink based printers made their appearance for the first time in the seventies. The procedure of developing printers and printer cartridges gained much popularity among businesses and organizations and became increasingly in style. Each printer has its printer cartridge with its own identification number and the model number of the printer it works with.
The year 1984 saw the inauguration of the inkjet technology. The advent of Inkjet Printer and the new updated Printer Ink Cartridge made the task of printing documents and exchange of printer cartridges a lot easier. The previous methods involved changing ribbons often or inserting a toner cartridge. In addition the procedure had become reliable, more convenient and less messy. The lower cost and the ability to precisely spray ink only when required are the biggest benefits of the inkjet technology. The creation of the inkjet printer was possible after massive labors by various companies to develop this effective technology and it seems like once they had started the process nothing could stop the race to the ideal inkjet printer.
After its original worldwide acceptance, the inkjet printer technology went on to deliver not only black and white printing capability but also color printing of text, graphics and images. Currently it is possible to print on different types of paper, fabric or film thanks to the excellent quality of printing with these printer cartridges. Today each brand of printer requires the use of a specific type of cartridge. You can find out from your printer's manual which cartridges can work with your printer as there is a wide variety of printer cartridges available.

OEM printer cartridges are those manufactured by the manufacturer of the printer and it bears the brand name of the printer. The cartridges are also refilled by other firms using the same cartridge and they are renowned as recycled printer cartridges. The printer cartridges made by other suppliers to the same specifications of the original cartridges are well-known as compatible printer cartridges.
Nowdays, you can also purchase the refill kits that help you to fill the used printer cartridges yourself or you can take your empties to a local stationary store and have it refilled by them. Because of the ease and high quality of the printers, people in general now print more than ever before and even prefer to print their own photographs.
