Learning at a young age can be quite a difficult task to accomplish especially it is in the early childhood stage when kids love to play more rather than study. But you see, the whole values system of the program Hooked on Phonics stresses that learning doesn't have to come in big bulks, and that kids don't have to have a hard time learning. Practice also plays a huge part in this systematic way of learning how to read.

The preschool version of this program is dedicated to introduce the children to the world of letters by using their sounds. You will start off with a 15 to 20 minute lesson daily. Any three or four year old can easily do this. They can begin with learn the letters through the Alphabet Song which you can find in the disk that is included in the kit. The good thing about Hooked on Phonics is that you use a variety of materials such as flashcards, storybooks and the audio CD that are all part of this wonderful system. You can also use your surroundings and your own personal examples to make the learning relevant to your children and help them relate to you better.

As the kid progresses to a more advanced stage, he or she will have a different program under the Hooked on Phonics system. This is learning how to read for kids in the second grade. This system basically lasts for three years of reading lessons that will help transition from early childhood learning to that of second-graders. Each lesson will take up 20 minutes every day and will dabble on more difficult words to enrich the vocabulary of the child.

Practice plays a big part in this overall experience. You and your child should definitely set aside enough time to master the skills being taught in this system. If not, how else can you expect your child to flourish in reading?
