The Best And Least Expensive Way To Further Your Education Online-00-4134

By: seanlewis734

The state universities and community colleges will be the best and least expensive way to further your education online. Usually degrees obtained online from state universities and colleges will be no different than a degree granted to a student sitting in class.

Stay away from the for-profits because of high cost. Some will be reasonable, but most, like University of Phoenix, overcharge. If you are just starting your college education or have less than 60 semester credit hours, try your local community college first. They may have an online AA degree program. If they do not, try other community colleges in your state.

Once you have an AA degree, you can enroll in an online bachelor's degree completion program at one of the state universities. Many state universities now have online degrees. The following are some websites to get you started.

In the USA accreditation of undergraduate colleges and universities is done by six regional associations. You should also check to see if local community colleges in your area offer an online program and if credits from that program were transferable to a state college or university. This would be the least expensive way to get started.
You should only consider accredited schools - this is a fact. However since the U.S. Department of Education does not distinguish between national or regionally accredited schools I would not be overly concerned about the differences.

From an employer point of view they usually look for accredited degrees and do not distinguish between the two. From a transferability standpoint you are better off asking up front the school you want to transfer into what their policy is on transfer students.

There are a number of mitigating factors related to transfer credits such as grades, relevance, course content etc. Bottom line is there is more to consider than just the type of accreditation.
