Simple and Affordable Wedding Gifts

By: Norman Kirby

Weddings are expensive occasions especially when one invitation comes after another. Buying a wedding gift in addition to a formal dress, fuel expense (if not plane tickets), and hotel accommodation is just a cherry on top of an already very expensive sundae. However, you would still want to tell the couple that you care for them, right? And to be able to do that, you'd better come up with a fantastic wedding present that will not leave you broke.

If the couple has a registry, it is best to take a look at it first and check whether you can purchase an item in it within your buying capacity. As the items on the list are surely needed, spending for them can be really worth it. If they listed some small items that you can all buy, why not do so and put them in a creative basket? However, if you are buying the wedding gift late, then you may not have an affordable item to buy anymore. The next best thing to do is come up with affordable gift ideas that will not break your pocket.

• Tickets—A lot of museums, theme parks, zoos, and other attractions sell tickets which are not date-specific. They can be bought in advance and use within a specific period of time. They can serve as great wedding gifts because aside from being flexible, they can also provide an opportunity for the couple to have fun and just relax. Moving in and starting a home is no easy thing so getting a break can surely do them good.

• Simple Themed Gift Baskets—Gift baskets are fantastic wedding presents because they are elegant and practical. You can put small items in a basket and together they can make a big gift. Think of dvds, microwavable popcorn, and theater candy; or cookie mix, cookie cutter, chocolate chips, cookie sheet, and parchment paper. Finish it with a big bow and insert a lovely card wishing them well. Nothing beats a personalized basket and message.

• Books—If the bride and groom love to read, then no wedding gift could be more perfect than books. If you know their favorite author, buy the latest addition to their collection. If you can, pry at their shelves and make sure that they don't have it yet.

• Framed photos—Photos are fantastic wedding gifts. Actually, they are wonderful gifts for all occasions and at all times. If you have been friends with the bride and groom for a long time, then you must have nice pictures of them. You can either print a good one into a larger size and have it framed or print multiple photos and turn them into a collage. Either way, they can surely bring smile to the couple's face.

These are some practical wedding presents you can choose from if you want to tell the couple you care for them but you don't have a lot to spend. They are simple but thoughtful and can certainly make fantastic wedding gifts.
