Reasons to Invest in Cape Verde Property?

By: Simon PhillipsJones

We would like to address some questions for those of you who may be investigating Cape Verde property or perhaps are looking for their very own villa in Cape Verde. In the preceding three or four years, there has existed a flood of property and tourism investment inwards into Cape Verde. Why is this and will it carry on after the present world financial crisis?

To react to this, firstly we have to consider the reasons for Cape Verde's current stunning growth... The causes are twofold - it has a stable political and fiscal environment with a democratically nominated government, and basically due to its fabulous beaches and wonderful local weather. There are a small number of locations in the world where 12 months of endless sunshine come together with these factors, and the short flight times from Europe have really made Cape Verde accessible to so many more people.

So will this prolong? We think so. The island of Sal, which saw the initial influx of tourism, has had difficulties to accommodate this demand. There has been significant over-development which has significantly outstripped the infrastructure capabilities of this island. Basically, there was next to nothing in Sal several years ago. This will take time to reorganise, but it's beaches will indisputably go on to drive future demand.

The island of Sao Vicente, the location of our development of Cape Verde villas, has just opened a modern international airport, and is immediately capable of hosting direct international flights. The city of Mindelo has been host to Cape Verde's deep sea port for more than a century, and the current economy and infrastructure are well placed to accommodate an imminent growth in tourism for both this island and its sister island Santo Antao. Santo Antao, although not yet ready for a sizeable tourism growth is no more than 11 km distant and is a 'must see' for any visitor; untamed and green in a way reminiscent of "Jurassic Park" or "Lost". Sao Vicente has a number of very high quality sandy beaches, is host to the biggest yearly festival in Cape Verde and also the yearly Baia das Gatas music event.

Boavista, with its virgin sandy beaches will also appeal to many. Last year it also opened a new international air port and is presently providing tourists to a couple of all-inclusive hotels. Similar to Sal, Boavista is rather barren in nature and has a rising property and tourism industry, but has brilliant beaches and an infrastructure dilemma to cope with the recent tourism demands.

With ever developing tourism and property sectors, a fantastic variety between islands, and let's face it... 12 months a year of sandy beaches and clear blue skies, the right property investments in Cape Verde will undoubtedly provide fantastic capital growth and rental revenue chances for many years to come.
