Ratchaphruek Flowers Thailand: What Do You Know About Thailand's National Flower?

Ratchaphruek flower, also known as the Golden Shower Flower or Cassia Fistula Linn, is Thailand's national flower. It is a conspicuous and widely planted tree, which is why it is known in various names aside from those previously mentioned. For instance, India calls is Indian laburnum. It is grown throughout southern Asia such as in Pakistan, India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka. Ratchaphruek flowers Thailand are known for their striking bright yellow colors, dark green leaves, and that they blossom at the same time of the year. They are found throughout the country and commonly planted in roadsides. They are often used during Chiang Mai flower festival held every February since they are in bloom during this month up to May. So much regard is given to this flower that on November 1, 2006 to January 31, 2007, there was the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek festival, which drew 3,781,624 visitors held in honor of the world's longest reigning monarch, King Bhumibol.

Ratchaphruek can be grown almost anywhere in Thailand, probably one of the reasons why it becomes its national flower, aside from the fact that it represents so much of what the country is. Meanwhile, its color is an acknowledged color of Buddhism, the country's national religion. Its color represents Monday, that is, the day when the King of Thailand was born. Lastly, the fact that the golden shower trees bloom at the same time reminds that Thai people of their unity and identity.

One specific place where you can find plenty of these flowers is in the famous Ratchaphruek Garden, which is located just outside of Chiang Mai City. Nestled in a lush mountain landscape, this garden was the site for the Royal Flora Expo 2006, which was considered as the world's most beautiful international horticultural exposition. If you want to grow Ratchaphruek flowers, you should know that they grow well in warm tropical climate like the climate in Thailand. In addition, you have to have a well-drained soil since the tree is relatively drought- and salt-tolerant. Accordingly, it will bloom better in a place where there is marked difference between temperatures of summer and winter. The tree provides a great shade during summer because it can grow up to 15 yards in height. One will get to appreciate how beautiful this tree is when the flowers in Thailand are blooming and the tree sheds it leaves so that what is left are the bright yellow blossoms that marvelously hand on the branches. For purposes of Ayurvedic medicine, Golden Shower tree, particularly the pulp, is used as a mild laxative, against fever, arthritis, and in certain cardiac conditions. Regarding its wood, it is considered strong and durable. In Kerala, India, Golden Shower is considered as a state flower. With its bright yellow colors that represent much of what Thailand is, it is appropriate to consider Golden Shower as the national symbol of the country.
