Online Marketing: Do You Have to Like Your Niche in Order to Thrive?

By: Jose Anajero

There is an adage which says "Do what you love and the money will follow."

But, do you truly have to like your niche to thrive in internet business?

Some folks say you have to like your niche for the reason that if you don't love your niche sooner or later you would get bored. Furthermore, your subject is easier to understand. Thus, it's easier to produce content and effectively communicate with your target market.

However in certain cases, what you desire is not profitable.

Some folks don't consider you have to love your niche to succeed in online business.
For example, an alpha male online marketer never loves weddings but he earns a lot in that niche.

Some people love their niche but still don't do well because they don't really take pleasure in the process of business. They get bored rigid in what they're doing after awhile. These are the people who still treat their enterprise as a hobby.

Thus for those who make it, some love their niche, some don't. But to be doing well it seems you have to like the business process itself.

Correlated to this topic is the choice of business model.

There are a lot of business models possible but we can place them into two broad categories which we call "horizontal" and "vertical".

In the horizontal business model, you go from market to market, building websites and products to sell to unrelated industries until you have several sources of income. This model has proven successful for many people.

In the vertical business model, you go profound in one industry, building quality content. The main thing is market domination through constancy and long term asset building.

Those who favor to nurture a meaningful relationship with a community are apt to pick the vertical business model.

So which model is best for you?

It actually depends on your personality and current life condition.

For instance, you can earn money faster in the horizontal business model. So, when you are just starting perhaps you can select the horizontal business model.

But, many acclaimed gurus prefer the vertical model. One business coach in fact, calls those who pursue the horizontal model as "underachievers" while calling those who favor the vertical model as "overachievers".

The financial and personal rewards from doing the vertical business model can be extremely substantial. As you are making something you care about, you are motivated to do uncommon things like writing new blog posts regularly for few years. That may appear too much of a chore. But if you're passionate in what you're doing, that's more enjoyable than the 9 to 5 jobs for many people.

If you love what you do you'll never work a day in your life.
