Well there's no denying it - No matter how new or how well maintained our computers are, we all encounter computer problems sooner or later. The good news is that we don't have to face them alone. There are a ton of resources available to walk us through computer issues but it may take a little knowledge in knowing how to access them. This article will show you how. On most pieces of software, and easily located through top level navigation are help icons packed full of useful information allowing you to resolve issues with your software by yourself. These are so obvious a place of reference that people very often forget to look for them and end up going round the houses before coming to a sensible solution that is staring them in the face. Computer software writers know better than most that end users need simple and easy to follow instructions detailing exactly how to use a piece of software as they understand that their customers have wide variations in expertise and they write the software with this in mind. Product websites. If you're having a problem with a piece of software or with a hardware part, try the website of that software's or hardware's manufacturer. Most (if not all) manufacturer's reserve a portion of cyberspace and dedicate it to support the products that they build. Microsoft's help desk is good example. Fan sites. Fan sites probably isn't a good name for this resource, but you can find websites that are dedicated toward supporting the users of a particular software program or piece of hardware. We've called them "fan sites" because the maintainers of these sites have no affiliation with the manufacturers that they support. Call them what you will, but their free help is immeasurable and without it, we wouldn't have some of the wonderful workarounds and unique problem solving techniques that we have today. Newsgroups are another often underused resource that can be found easily over the internet. Discussion groups often number in the thousands help the confused user through their problem. You can bet that if you are having a problem yourself then someone else will have had the same issue and more importantly knows how to solve the problem. You will see then that help is often available perhaps where you least expect to find it. These solutions to computer problems are often available at little or sometimes even no cost.
