"You react the way you are trained" he stated. Paying attention to your surroundings, and walking with self-belief will help keep likely attackers away. Attackers look for easy targets, who aren't paying any attention to what is happening around them.

Never tread down shady alleys by yourself. At all times have someone go with you. By no means hitch hike.

As a rule people's reactions to an act of violence are either flight, fight, or freeze. If you will not train to have automatic reactions, you may freeze if taken without notice.
