Jobs Tanzania – 3 Ways to Travel and Work in Tanzania

By: Jason Steller

Some people like to see the world by spending some time working in foreign countries. If that is how you want to see Tanzania, you might be able to find a number of jobs that you are qualified for. Certain types of jobs are much easier for outsiders to get, though, as in most cases locals work for cheaper than foreigners tend to expect to earn. However, if you are doing it for the experience, you might not mind an exchange of room and board for minimal pay for the job you do in Tanzania. Often taking a job in Tanzania is more about helping the locals than just you experiencing a new place.

One type of job that you can get and travel to Tanzania to participate in temporarily is an English language program in which you teach locals English. This is a great opportunity for teachers, especially those fresh out of college that want to experience the world more before they settle down. It is also a good way for experienced teachers to take a sabbatical. Even if you are not a teacher, you can often work with programs and go through simple training to be then placed in Tanzania to teach English.

Volunteering is the most common and often easiest way to get a job and experience Tanzania. There is a lot of different NGO (non-governmental organizations) you can work with as a volunteer with a range of types of programs. This can include working in local daycares, schools, orphanages, and hospitals. Volunteering programs are great for individuals, families, and friends to see and work in Tanzania, as they can often be short term commitments that you can add some sightseeing time to and still not take too much time away from your life back home.

If you have medical training, you can try to get a job to help locals in Tanzania. This can include offering your services to more remote locations or even just be extra more experienced help in hospitals and clinics in urban areas. You might also be able to find a job that involves helping hospitals, clinics, and other medical related places upgrade to better technology or train staff to be better educated and better able to help locals with common and emergency medical issues when they arise later after you leave.
