However, some of these sites can be misleading. You can spend 30 minutes filling out a profile only to find out you need to pay $29.95 a month to talk to anybody. So this article is intended to guide you through the process and give you a heads up on these sites. We will look at the top 6 (based on Google rankings), HIV dating sites on the web. We will talk about each site in detail and then give our opinion of that site based on features, cost, privacy and flexibility. We will start with our least favorite web site and end with what we believe to be the best site. HIV Passions (hivpassions.com) Despite the fact that this site is 100% free, it is in our opinion the worst HIV dating site available, and it might be a threat to your privacy as well. The Positive: - 100% free. The Negative: - They run a network of dating sites, called the Passions Network and they distribute your profile within this network - including non HIV dating sites. During registration, you come to a page called groups. It asks you to check specific groups based on things you are interested in. They will then display your profile on dating sites within their network based on what interests you pick. This kind of defeats the purpose of an HIV dating site because now your profile is showing up to HIV negative people. It's also a threat to your privacy. - Your profile can show up in search results in Google, Yahoo, etc. Your privacy on this web site might be comprised. - Incredibly confusing to navigate. - No instant messenger. - No zip code search. - Littered with advertising. Our Opinion: This site is free but may not be safe. We advise staying away from this website. 5. Positives Dating (positivesdating.com) This is our second least preferred site. It is not feature rich in comparison to other HIV dating websites, and they charge much more than other websites. There is also no flexibility in their payment schedule. They merely offer a six month membership and nothing else. The Positive: - When doing a search the colors and the layout are easy to read. - We searched for straight women, ages 18-99, with no additional search criteria and came up with 2980 results. There was 2980 straight females on the site in the entire world. A pretty good count. The Negative: - Every time we logged in or clicked on "my profile" it kept prompting us to log into their new website, positivesdatingSTD.com. PositivesdatingSTD.com is not an HIV dating site - its for people with all kinds of STD's. A bit worrisome because you can log into the new site with the same username and password, which leads us to believe they will be sharing profiles between the two sites. - We clicked the "who's online button" and there was only one woman online in the whole world. This was at 7:15pm PST. - The free features on the web site appeared rather limited in comparison to other HIV dating sites. We pulled the below statement directly from their website; "Only Premium Members can create e-mails, save searches, contact Soul-Mates, see who's viewed their profiles" With the majority of the other HIV dating web-sites we tested, everything was free of charge except for contacting members. For instance, with nearly all of the other websites, you can see who viewed you, use the forums, save searches, and conduct an advanced search for free. With this site, you have to be a paying member to utilize any of these features. - You can't search by zip code. - There is no instant messenger or chat. The Cost: This web site just offers a 6 month membership for $59.95. Our Opinion: We do not recommend this site. It did not make sense to us to pay for six months in advance for a website you can barely test out, that did not look all that great to begin with. It seemed to lack numerous features. There are HIV dating sites available that are less expensive, with more features and more flexibility in terms of payment options. Our other concern, is that they will start sharing profiles on this new dating site they have, positivesdatingsSTD.com. We don't know this factually, but it is definitely a concern since you can login into this new site with the same username and password as positivesdating.com. 4. Positive Singles (positivesingles.com) Positive Singles is the middle point. The web site is feature rich,and the site is very user friendly, however it's not specific to HIV and the pricing is a tad high. The Positives: - Enrollment was painless and most of the features you can use for free, except for contacting members (email, instant messenger). - They offer a forum, instant messenger (paid feature), favorites list, who's viewed me and loads of other features. - They offer a lot of great content and support for people with STD's. They even offer some kind of a counselor on the web site - which seemed very cool. - They offer the largest base of members of all the web-sites we reviewed. We did a search similar to the one mentioned above and came up with 1000's of people, HOWEVER, its not specific to HIV. It's all STD's. The negatives: - Not specific to HIV dating it's for all STD's. This worries us because of the potential of acquiring additional STD's. If you are already HIV positive, the last thing you want is catching something else, especially with an already damaged immune system. - No zip code search. - No "who's online" feature. - You have to be a paying member to perform an advanced search. This includes searching for HIV positive singles. You can't select to search for HIV positive singles unless you pay. The cost: 1 month membership is $29.95, 3 months $59.95 and 6 months $95.95. Its Pretty high-priced. Our opinion: Positive Singles is a decent site with a lot of good features. In spite of this, we don't like that it's not specific to HIV positive singles and you can't search for HIV positive Singles unless you become a paying member. We also believe the subscription fee is way too high at $29.95 per month. We advise trying this site out for a month and seeing how it goes. 3. HIV Poz (HIVpoz.net) This was our 3rd preferred HIV dating web site. The site is feature rich and sensibly priced. The Positives: - You can utilize all the features for free, excluding contacting members. - Zip code search. - They had 61 users on line at 8:45pm PST. - They have a large member base - we did a search and had lots of results. - They offer scores of links to supportive resources for people living with HIV. - Full featured - matching, instant messenger, chat room, who's online, who's viewed me. The Negative: - Long procedure to create profile and you can't skip anything. - Littered with ads. - No forum. - Fairly difficult to navigate. The Cost: $14.97 a month, $23.97 for 3 months, $44.97 for 6 months and 79.97 for a year. But, they are presently running a special for $7.97 a month, a very good price. The only reason this was our third favorite is because there was so many ads on this web site and the text was small and hard to read, which made it difficult to navigate. We feel that if a web site is going to charge a membership fee, they ought to have very little advertising. We kept finding ourselves squinting because the text was so tiny. However, it is still a good website to meet people and the price is very good...we recommend it. 2. Poz Match (pozmatch.com) Poz Match is the 2nd best HIV dating website available. It has high-quality features and it's easy to navigate. The pricing is reasonable, especially on their 3, six and 12 month memberships. The Positive: - You can search and check out profiles before you even sign up. This is a really good feature because you don't have to go through pages of registering previous to seeing what the website has to offer. - They have a good zip code search. - Good features - matchfinder, hotlists, saved searches, etc. Every feature is free of charge except for contacting members. - They had some really nice success stories. There is no way to check if they are true, but they looked good. - The site is very easy to navigate. The Negative: - 4 pages you must complete to sign up. All of the questions you are required to answer. - No who's viewed me (we found this a little unusual - this is an important feature they are missing). - No forums. The Cost: $14.95 for 1 month, $29.95 for 3 months, $39.95 for 6 months Our Opinion: This is a wonderful site, that is feature rich, incredibly simple to navigate and modestly priced. We like that you can explore the members before even registering. We highly recommend this website.
