HIV Dating Site Offers Community & Intimacy To HIV Positive Singles

A new HIV dating site, HIV and Single, has been launched with the purpose of giving HIV positive singles an opportunity to anonymously experience community and intimate relationships with no worry of judgment.

"It's a unique concept" said Matt Beram, co-founder of the website, "Because despite the fact that it is an HIV dating site and its main idea is to connect HIV positive singles living with HIV or AIDS, we also provide an HIV forum, dating articles, HIV Chat etc. The site is quite comprehensive and goes beyond merely dating."

Founded in September 2008, the site debuted in December and has already grown to over 6000 members.

Beram and partner Elisa Forni have been close friends for over 15 years. The concept for an HIV Dating web site, came from one of Beram's closest family members who was diagnosed HIV positive ten years ago. She was describing to Beram and Forni how complex dating is since being diagnosed. The stories were disturbing to listen to and so they wanted to help.

"We published surveys directed to people living with HIV," said Forni, "We wanted to learn if dating was a struggle for other people living with HIV. The response we got was amazing." They received many hundreds of responses from people telling them how lonely they were and how difficult it is to find love. "Some of the responses were so sad" Forni said, "All I could think to myself was that these people deserve love and companionship too."

"The website is extremely comprehensive and just as good as the big personal dating web sites in existence," enthuses Beram. "You can search via zip code, interests, sexual preference, hair color, any little detail.

"There are a few other HIV Dating web-sites, but we really go the extra mile," concludes Beram. "We cater to the individual, and Elisa and I personally answer all e-mails. We never want anyone to feel like they are alone dealing with a big company. We always want them to know that we completely empathize with them, and that we're here to help.
