Google Buzz, Newborn Present From Google

Buzz allows clients to want to contribute to publicly with the world or privately to a small group of friends every occasion they post. The product was announced on February 9, 2010, in a press conference at the company's Mountain View head office and launched on the same day, at 11:00 a.m. PT for its first wave.The Google Buzz figure will be rolled out to Gmail accounts in the coming weeks and it is probable to access the service from the Gmail inbox. Google Appsfor businesses and educational facilities will receive Buzz soon however, the team is "still operational on some features to make Buzz work well for small businesses and schools, so it isn't yet available in Google Apps."A mobile version of the site optimized for Android phones and Apple's iPhone has also been launched. Within 56 hours of having been released, 9 million posts were made on Google Buzz—approximately 160,000 posts and notes per hr.

The easiest way to explain Google Buzz is by calling it a Facebook. The modern service has been getting a load of bollocking from communal media customers but I understand much potential in the service.

The communal Analyst is a weekly column by Mashable Co-Editor Ben Parr, where he digs into social media trends and how they are affecting companies in the space.

Google may have lastly figured out social media, even if there have been some key slip-ups in the way. The implications of that realization could dramatically modify societal media as a tool and as an industry.

On Tuesday, February 9th, Google launched Buzz for Gmail, a service for sharing thoughts, multimedia, and your social media feeds with your associates utilizing Gmail as the conduit. The result: over 160,000 Google Buzz posts and commentary per hour.

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Google didn’t launch a small addition to Gmail — no, it has dropped a nuclear bomb whose fallout will permanently alter the public media landscaping. I could never have predicted that it would turn into so well-liked so rapid when I first learned about it.

Why? Why has it grown so rapidly? Why has it riled up such robust feelings on both sides? Are the privacy issues going to permanently damage Google? And most of all, what does Google Buzz mean for Twitter, Facebook, and the rest of the communal media world?

Google Buzz’s Skyrocketing Usage

While it’s still very early into Buzz’s life cycle, first indications show that Google has a hit on its hands. Linking Buzz to Gmail’s millions of fans has evidently brought public into the company’s modern public domain.

Google has only released 2 statistics so far: there have been over 9 million posts and comments in about 56 hours, amounting to around 160,000 posts and remarks per hour. That’s even more impressive if you consider the fact that most users didn’t get Buzz until Wednesday the 10th.

The other number: over 200 mobile check-ins per minute, nearly 300,000 cell check-ins per day.

Those facts are merely stellar.
