By: Steven Gearing

Have you noticed how all the men with well defined abs at the beach seem to get the attention from the ladies? For anyone who has been trying to turn their tummy fat into a six pack you’ll also know that this is one of the most difficult areas to get rid of fat. There are 2 main fat layers in our body’s, the bottom layer can easily be burnt off using exercise and a low calorie diet, but it’s the top layer of stored adipose fat nearest the skin that is the most difficult to get rid. So the big question is how to get a six pack?

If you’re wondering how to get a six pack there are plenty of specially designed diets and exercise programs available online and in your local gym. Most have been created by professional nutritionists and personal trainers giving you a step by step guide to attaining a perfect set of washboard abs, though be wary of those that promise results in under a month. The truth about how to get a six pack is that there is no 100% proven method that works for everyone, we all have different body’s that react to dieting and exercise in various ways. Though having said that at essence our bodies have the same basic chemical mechanisms, so here are a few tips on how to get a six pack that may work for you.

Less carbs the better – Too many carbohydrates are a big weight gainer, once in your system carbs turn into a chemical called glycogen which is then used by the body as energy for your brain functioning and muscles. Unfortunately most body types can only store a small amount of glycogen and the rest is turned into adipose stored fat for later usage, which is exactly what we don’t want as this goes right to the abdominal area. There are 2 types of carbohydrates, the bad complex carbs and the good refined carbs, your body needs a small amount of complex carbohydrates in order to function well during the day. The fewer carbohydrates in your body the better, when your body has no carbs to turn into glycogen it will go directly to your stored fat for energy.

More proteins – You might equate proteins to fat, but proteins are a very helpful weight loss tool as they help your body build muscle. People with a larger number of muscles burn calories much faster; your body will need to create more energy in order to keep these muscle tissues strong and growing. Eat a balanced amount of eggs, low fat milk and organic low fat yogurt in your diet, but don’t forget you must exercise to turn this into muscle.

Lots of water – Get as many pure fluids in you as possible, the main rule of thumb for people who are dieting is to drink their own weight in pounds of water per day. Drinking several glasses of fresh mineral or distilled water after a heavy meal will help to dilute out the bad elements and keep your organs working smoothly. The fact is water can help flush out a significant amount of fat from your body without you having to lift a muscle, there is even a special fad diet that involves drinking only water for a week.

Mixed intensity cardio – Running, swimming, jogging, cycling, all of these are ideal direct means of burning off fat. It is now known that doing lots of low intensity cardio exercise over a longer time is a more effective way to burn off fat then lots of high intensity exercising done all at once, this is because your body takes time to start burning off fat and then stops working after you hit a certain point. A good way to balance the two is to start on a low intensity jog for 20 minutes, then when your body hits its optimal fat burning zone, you add extra intensity and break into a sprint to exploit this.
