Exploring the countless Search Engine Optimisation advantages to your website of beneifiting from Twitter and Facebook

By: Keith R Lunt

To those close to me, lots of them will have noticed that over a matter of a few months I have transformed from ignoring social networking to becoming a colossal fan of them for their promotional uses. It happened in a flash. Standing in the shop, waiting for my wife, I saw a website market its own Twitter page. So I started investigating it and each day I find more and turn out to be more swayed.

I have before now written about how it would seem that Google is going to take more attention in Twitter and other social networks. We can see news results appearing at the top of results listings, along with blog entries that emerge hours after publication. This is significant for those in need of information. Not so good for those in need of website traffic to keep their businesses booming.

So what do us lowly website owners need to do to keep out traffic flowing and our businesses alive and well? The answer is quite trouble-free. Join the rebellion! I’ve been telling some of my customers to join in for the last month or two and I’ve seen evidence of one of them doing well on Twitter, but many just aren’t bothering. And it is a pity, for it is wholly free of charge additional exposure to the search engines and maybe extra search engine results!

Take a basic search result. OK, so potentially you already come out in the top ten, perhaps even the top five. That is definitely the aim. But what if you may possibly get an extra page in the top five? It is very tiring to get a different page from your own website in the top five another time and commencing afresh on a whole new website can be pricey and time consuming. Copying the present site could wipe out it through the duplicate content filter and thinking of as much as necessary text and optimising the site may well take your eyes off the ball for long enough for you to put out of your mind the previous site and see that drop.

But it is moderately effortless to enhance this work with a Twitter or Facebook page. Generate both and each of them can point back to your main website. This means that visitors finding the social networking page can still be redirected to the central site and search engines might also be passing the effect of page rank generated on the social networking sites to your main site. This could in point of fact help move your main site up a search result or two.

Then get creating and posting on the social networks. OK, it takes time and you have to recall them. But apportion a bit of time each day to remember to do this and post a little exciting to your Facebook wall and Tweet once in a while. There are tools that help you tie these all together that can be very practical and save you a lot of time.

Once you get going publishing newest news to your social networks your clients should stay more loyal and you will hopefully locate more new customers, both through the networks and through search engine results.
