Whatever souvenirs you decide to shop for be sure to remember that in nearly all cases you can negotiate to get a better price.

Kangas are sarong style pieces of clothing that have Swahili sayings on the bottom of them. There are also kitenges, which are about twice the length of kangas. Tanzanite comes in various shades of blue with the darker shades being more expensive than the lighter shades. Tanzanite is graded on a scale from AAA to B with AAA being the most expensive. A good quality AAA graded Tanzanite gemstone can cost you up to $450 per carat.

Buying Tanzanite is one of the riskiest souvenirs to buy due to its high value. If you plan to but some on your trip to Tanzania be sure to research about how to grade the quality and authenticity before you go. You can also choose to shop at the more reputable shops to avoid fakes, although you will pay extra for this comfort.
