Benefits of using Hoists and Winches at workplace

Lifting and material handling is very hard, industrious and hazardous activity. Everyday we face this hazards doing material handling in our workplaces. We use to do small lifting and material handling using the god gifted and most valuable tools which are our hands. But by using our hands to lift all those small or heavy items we are keeping our hands and backbone at a risk. Our hands and backbone can be strained due to over loading or inappropriate positioning.
We lift heavier items with the collective helps of many people where modern lifting equipments or hoists and winches are not available.
As technology is growing, now we don't have to take much effort to lift heavy items. We are in a position where hoists and winches are helping us greatly to lift heavy items everyday.
We can even lift a mountain using the latest technology of hoists and winches.
At the beginning when winches have just invented they used ropes to pull the item through a winch. There was a lever which they used to hold the winch to stop. But now the hoists and winches are completely digital and remotely operated. However, we still need people at the other end to do rigging handling. Some engineering controls has invented hooks and shackles which helps lifting without going on top of large items like containers.
The containers are made with slots built on top for the hooks to be placed and locked. The operators can take the hook near the slots and insert it inside. Riggers then tie the guide ropes and holds in their hands to prevent from unwanted movement of the load, signaler then signals and the operator lifts the item.
However, all containers are not complete with this latest technology. We still can see many containers everywhere with old design. Those old containers require riggers to go on top of them to rig the hooks inside the slots of the containers for lifting.
The weight of these containers is mostly more than 5 tons which is too heavy for manual lifting. Even if you gather hundreds of people to lift a 5 tons heavy container you won't be able to lift. It is only possible to lift because of lifting capacity the hoists and winches.
All heavy industries that manufacturing ships, boats, vehicles etc. are literally dependable on winches operated cranes. The production of those industries will be stops if there is no crane or all of their cranes break down!
So you can see the potency and our dependency on hoists and winches in every place of our work.
So in conclusion we are agree that without hoists and winches our industries won't be able to produce heavy items and all productions in a heavy will be affected. We are very dependant on cranes which are mainly made with hoists and winches.
