A Good Tennis Coach

By: Norman Kirby

If you are trying to teach your children how to play tennis, but is feeling doubtful about yourself because you do not know how to become a good tennis coach in the first place, what you can do is to remember several things that may become helpful for you. This article will give you some of the most important characteristics that a really good tennis teacher should have most especially when coaching young children who are beginners in the said sport.
First of all, it would be really helpful for you to know that a really good teacher of this sport should have enough patience. This is very important because you should already be aware of the fact that not all of your trainees will be able to learn the sport in an instant; therefore, some of your children might need a little more time to learn things compared to others. What a lot of coaches do not understand is the fact that when they lose their patience in teaching, the students feel added pressure when it comes to executing the moves properly. And you should be informed as well that pressure is not a good thing to give your students most especially if they do not have yet the confidence that they need in playing the said sport. In addition to being really patient, it would really be required for an excellent tennis coach to be able to play the game as well; you cannot share the important skills needed for tennis to your children if you do not have them to begin with. If you are really aspiring to teach your own children how to play tennis, what you can do first is to enroll in various basic tutorial programs just to be able to learn the fundamental skills that good tennis players should have; this will allow you to impart really helpful skills to the beginners as well. Another skill that you need to have to become an effective coach is for you to be really good when it comes to communicating or relating to other people. All the skills that you know when it comes to playing tennis will just be useless if you do not know how to express them to your students. Communication skills are very important when teaching because it allows you to verify if your students are really understanding what you are trying to tell them or not. Last but definitely not the least, you have to make sure that you are encouraging enough to give your students the belief that they need to be able to pull off tennis games and eventually become victorious in the end.
A good tennis coach does not only need to become strict about the regulations that the students must always follow, but he/she should also be approachable enough to give the students the feeling that they can always ask help whenever they are having a hard time with a particular skill. Most importantly, relate to the students and make them feel that you are willing to become a part of their life if it would mean that you will be a part to their success in playing tennis.
