"Credit Debt And The Crippling of American Families... Is There Hope?"

By: Allen Stewart

Tough economic times have people making bad choices when it come to using credit and credit cards. Signs of the times; you may have noticed people grocery shopping for food and paying for it with their credit cards. It's a sad situation; however it's one that can't be avoided for many families these days.

Job lost and no income, little money saved and empty saving accounts, high debts and pay cuts have families, using credit card to pay their car loans, utilities bills, by food and even pay their mortgage payments. The average family today carries $8,000 in credit card debt according to the American bankers' association. Statistics show that Americans now rely more and more on plastic to cover life expenses. The average American carries eight credit and debit cards, a number that no doubt contributes to the high average household credit card debt.

Many consumers, whether due to job loss, major injury, or simply overspending with ever increasing interest rates, see a large portion of their monthly income being swallowed up by credit card payments. Most consumers are only able to make the minimum payment and soon find that their balances are increasing (or at least not changing), which causes even more frustration and stress.

Credit reporting agencies are feared almost as much as the IRS-and there are three credit reporting beasts compared to just one IRS monster. One bad entry on your credit report can cripple your borrowing power for years. Even worse, credit reports are often requested by employers, landlords and insurance companies.

Credit reporting agencies are independent companies that each collects information in different ways. Therefore, a credit report from Experian will contain slightly different information than a credit report from Transunion, which will differ slightly from Equifax. Credit reporting agencies are not obligated to provide you with your credit score. Credit reporting agencies are required under federal law to provide a free credit report once per year if you request it.

Where can one find a solution... is there hope?

There is a great need for credit assistance but where can consumers go for help?

The solution... credit consultants?

Credit consultants are usually individuals that are experience in credit management and credit information.
